Vigor2710Vn Preview - Part 1

A Router with an artistic touch!

We have received a sample of Vigor2710Vn from DrayTek Corp and have been impressed by the aesthetic and functional designs of the casing, so much so that we would like to convey the details below, so that you can tell your potential customers in the future.

With the streamlined shape from all angles, the casing is eye-catching the moment you open the box. It gives off an impression that it has technical and artistic quality - setting it apart from traditional, match-box like router casings.

Since 2004 DrayTek has worked closely with a Denmark design house, Designnord for the casings for Vigor2500V, Vigor2820, Vigor2710 and Vigor2110. The Vigor2710 casing has white PU Varnish style featuring artistic-feel, humid-resistant, germ-proof, dust-proof, etc. Designed to be placed standing up on desk or hanged on the wall, Vigor2710 fits in nicely with normal office/home settings without being intrusive. You will want to exhibit this router, unlike the old 「ugly」 router which you tried hard to hide.

On the right edge of the front panel are LED indicators including ACT, WLAN, DSL, LAN1~4, USB, Phone1~2, Line and WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup). On the right side, a WPS button allows quick setting of WPS making it easy for non-IT users to setup Wireless security.

The top groove has vents for heat dissipation and 3 connectors for the Wireless antennas. DrayTek provides 3 plastic caps for the connectors to minimize statics or dirts during transportation.

Three hanging grooves are provided at the back so the unit can be hanged on the wall if so desired.

On the left side, there are 1 x DSL port (RJ-11), 4 x LAN ports (RJ-45), 1 x USB port and a WLAN button for turning WLAN on/off easily.

Unlike traditional routers, the bottom of Vigor2710 is not flat, but instead is arc-curved allowing it to house a power socket, a reset button, 3 VoIP ports (2x FXS and 1 x FXO, for VoIP models only) and more vents for heat dissipation – further improving the router's capability to dissipate hear and thus the performance.

Compared to Vigor2700VG, Vigor2710 is wider, such that it can be placed in a standing up position. A stand further stabilizes the router when it's in the standing-up position.

The designer has provided space for the telephone and power cables to be laid neatly on the left side and at the bottom of the router.

The new Vigor2710 series is feature rich and with many surprices and we expect most customers will be impressed. The R&D team in DrayTek is, as usual, working hard to fix the firmware for the Vigor2710 series, in the hope that the customers will have nothing but good experience with the products. This is also the objective that we have been pursuing in the last 6 years.

The exact ETA date is not yet set by DrayTek Corporate, but we expect Vigor2710 and Vigor2710n to be in stock before March 2009, while Vigor2710Vn further behind because more firmware and fine tuning are required.
